Specializing in rope making, she has developed a low-tech, self-built, open-source machine to produce her pieces from post-consumer textile waste. Her practice is akin to contemporary passementerie. Sometimes sinuous and airy, sometimes dense and soft, her work can either be a flat surface or a volume shape.
In between recycling and upcycling, her process blurs the patterns, materials, and flaws of textiles to recreate unity. She ennobles the materials without completely erasing their origin. One must look closely at her pieces to discern the history of the fabrics that compose them.
With a BTS degree in textile design from ESAAT in Roubaix and a Master’s degree in textile design from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels (ARBA-ESA), she learned and practiced numerous textile techniques such as weaving, knitting, screen printing, dyeing, and embroidery before turning her attention to trimmings and rope making. She uses these various techniques and combines them according to the needs of each project.
She worked as intern for WENDY ANDREU during 6 months and Won the MAD BRUSSELS PRIZE with her graduation project in 2023.
BESPOKE
Through collaborations and commissions, Maëva combines her skills as a textile designer with her in-depth knowledge of circular processes. She often plays with the challenges of reuse to contribute to the creation of architectural pieces, vitrine, scenography, installations, as well as body-related creations such as costume and performance accessories.COLLECTIBLE
Mavable is developing families of objects mostly lamps, chairs and textile pieces for the home. These are unique pieces, in between functional intelligence and artisanal know-how.ARTISTIC PRACTICE
Through sculpture she forges connections with the living, bringing non-human forms back to the forefront and placing them at the center of attention. She uses outdated practicesthat seem out of step with the pace of the world and thinks with the material to create.
SHARING
Passing on / Transfer :Sharing knowledge and engaging with different audiences also enriches her work. It’s something she’s committed to continuing through Workshops, collective creation, lectures, in schools or art centres.
